Link of the Day: The Universe, turned on its head

When we discussed the scientific method a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned to at least two of the classes that there was a big question about the age of the Universe, because two of the methods used to make measurements for that question give different results. Furthermore, they keep giving different results even as more and better data from the Hubble and Webb space telescopes comes down.

Turns out there are even more problems with the current model of the Universe than just the “Hubble tension.” You can read a well-written description and editorial here.

Link of the Day: Radio Garden

A couple of programmers in the Netherlands (I think) whipped this up a couple of years ago. It’s a worldwide map showing all of the broadcast radio stations available online. Pull the map around until the reticle sits on a town you think might be interesting, and then click on the left for a station list in that town. Anywhere from a single station to dozens might be available. Absolutely worth a look.

And Here … We… Go.

As much cool and fun and hilarious stuff is out here, on the Internet, there should be a place to gather these things.

Sometimes I will find an article out here that I think is interesting, or that you might like, and I’ll put it here.

Or, I’ll find the answer to a question from class that I didn’t have time to answer, or didn’t know the answer to. I might put that here as well.

And occasionally, there will be something weird or funny worth sharing.

There should be a place for these sorts of things. Perhaps this will be the place.

Let’s see what happens.
